Bihar Minister’s Welcome Event Sees ₹7 Lakh Gold Chain Theft

Bihar: Minister’s Welcome Turns Into ₹7 Lakh Gold Chain Mystery

Muzaffarpur, Bihar, September 4, 2026: A welcome programme for Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar in Muzaffarpur reportedly turned into an unexpected incident when a JDU leader’s gold chain worth around ₹7 lakh went missing amid the crowd.

The incident took place at Sakri Chowk in the Kudhani area, where party workers and local supporters had gathered to welcome the minister. According to reports, a crowd of around 100–150 people was present during the programme.

JDU Leader Loses Gold Chain During Welcome

JDU leader Rajesh Mandal, a resident of Ladoura village, had reportedly gone forward to welcome the minister and present him with a garland.

Amid the crowd and pushing, Mandal later noticed that his gold chain was missing. He reported the chain to be approximately 34 grams in weight and worth around ₹7 lakh.

It remains unclear whether the chain was deliberately pulled away by someone or accidentally broke and fell during the crowding. Mandal reportedly suspected that someone took advantage of the situation to steal it.

Police Examine CCTV and Video Footage

Following the incident, Mandal submitted an application at Turki police station. Police have started investigating the matter and are reportedly examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area as well as videos recorded during the welcome programme.

The investigation is expected to determine whether the chain was stolen or lost during the commotion.

A Welcome Programme Becomes a Crime Scene

Political welcome programmes can attract large crowds, especially when senior ministers visit an area. Such gatherings can also create opportunities for thieves to take advantage of congestion and distraction.

The incident serves as a reminder for people attending crowded public and political events to remain cautious with expensive jewellery and personal belongings.

Investigation Underway

At present, no specific person has been publicly established as the accused in this case. Police investigation, CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts will be important in determining what happened to the missing chain.

The incident has attracted attention because the alleged theft occurred during the minister’s welcome programme, turning what was supposed to be a celebratory political gathering into an unexpected police investigation.
